30 Hours Logged in at Boston Central

Last week I finished up my minimum teaching requirement of 30 hours. For those of you who don't know what this means, it is a requirement for those of us who are nominated to teach English in the PC who have no English teaching experience. I have been teaching art at the college level for a few years, but teaching a language is very different.  It has been an interesting and rewarding experience. I teach a small class twice a week called "English for the Spanish Speaker" at the Literacy Volunteers of East Bay in Warren.  My students are fun and awesome and are doing quite well.  They are advanced beginners in English and I am hoping to bring them up to the intermediate level by the time I am ready to start my service in March.

Upcoming Shows

I woke up yesterday with one thought blasting through my brain...I have only 6 weeks to prepare for the first exhibition of "West meets East" (Cultural Book Exchange) !!!!  I got on the computer to alert the troops: Daniela and her students in Romania (I need their pictures and statements and the remainder of the books ASAP!), my students here in America, begging for the same stuff, and the gallery director, a very sweet and kind lady who sent me the floor plan of the space, and gave me the news of what's hapening and when it's happening. It may not sound like much in writing, but there is a lot more work to be done.  I need to design the exhibition postcard, meet up with my brother to discuss plans to build the podium-like shelving that will display the books, meet with the printer to discuss how and when we will be printing the posters, make a slideshow/movie of all the work which will be projected on the wall of the gallery, write 3 statements (my personal one, a gallery one for here, and a gallery one for Romania), send 2 of these off to Romania so they can be translated, edit the Romanian students statements, and a host of other little things that will be cropping up!  PHEW!!!! So much work in so little time.  Small wonder the Good Lord gave me broad shoulders.

And the Beat goes On...

It's been 17 days since I have my teeth extracted and they have not yet healed.  Is this normal?  It seems to me that they should be pretty well healed by now.  As a result of this delay, I have had to put off the dentist visit that was to have been the beginning of my crown work.  Not for those reasons alone, mind you.  I pretty much got laid off from my job and with the money not exactly rolling in, I need to figure out how to pay for it.
I can't believe my rotten luck.
