The Cultural Book Exchange is finished for the time being and will begin the first leg of its exhibition journey right here in Rhode Island at the CCRI gallery in Warwick. After a 4 week run the books and I will be traveling to Romania for the second exhibition at the National University of Arts, in Bucharest.
The American show runs from September 14-October 14...Opening Reception and Gallery Talk on Thursday, September 23, from 5-7. The Romanian show runs from November 1-14, and the opening reception there is on November 1, although I am not sure of the time yet!
Last night's opening went extremely well. Many came to see the books and listen to me talk about our project. The best part of the evening, however, was meeting two complete strangers who somehow felt like close friends. Daniela (my Romanian counterpart) has a close friend (a former teacher) who now lives here in New England with her daughter. Both came to the reception and it was very emotional. They have not seen her for many years, and seeing her work in the books was quite overwhelming. They are like family and they miss her very much.
