A Sad and Long Overdue Goodbye

I never said goodbye to my sister Lauren.  Ever. All the years she has come and gone in my life and never once did we ever say goodbye.  There were stony silences on the end of the phone line, angry words shouted and then dropped into complete silence, and e-mails never answered. So few hellos, and not one goodbye.

Until now.

Lauren died last week.  If it wasn't for a strategically placed obituary in a puny local paper here that pretty much no one ever reads, we might never have known. So, here goes.

Goodbye, farewell, my sad and lonely sister. We mourned you for many years, and now it's time for us to let you go.

Lauren and I...late 80"s

  1. I'm sorry you never got to say goodbye, but maybe Lauren didn't ever want to say goodbye to you because; when I told her goodbye; she replyed....."don't say goodbye, you know we are going to see each other again in our next lives. She told me we will travel together to Eourpe in our next life. So I can't hepl but to believe she has plans for your next life too.
Joanne, I'm so sorry for your loss. Lauren was a wonderful person with a very kind soul. I miss her very much.
May God Bless you and your family,

  2. I understand you are going into the peace core and moving to the Ukraine for a couple years. I want to say good luck and God Bless You! I went on a mission trip for 10 days to the Ukraine a couple years ago. The mission was called Mission to Ukraine and it is a crisis center for unwanted pregnancies and for physically and mentally disable children. It's located a little outside of Kiev in a town called Zhitomir. I also went to an all boys oprhange who are mentally & physically disable every day to work with them. I hope to go on more mission trips in my future but with work and family it very hard to be away too long. Again I wish you luck and I will be checking your blog for up dates on you adventures!
