Christmas Lunch "Danish" Style.

Ukrainian people celebrated Christmas on January 6 this year. A member of our Open Borders English club decided to invite everyone to his apartment for a Ukrainian Christmas lunch...Danish style. Thomas is an ex-pat from Denmark and he went home for the holidays and returned with all sorts of lovely traditional Danish foods (no, NOT Danish as we know it). Thomas spent most of the evening in the kitchen preparing everything while the rest of us ate like a hungry pack of wolves. I can't tell you all the foods he brought out but I am excited to tell you that I ate cavier for the first time. I must say that it's not the taste that grabbed me, but the texture. After you put these tiny black eggs into your mouth they dissolve on your tongue. That's the only way I can describe this sensation. Sort of like, expensive pop rocks without the fizzle. It was indeed a very nice sensation. I thought that I would hate cavier knowing how very salty it is, but I didn't care about that...it is all about the way it feels on your tongue.

There was so much food there I thought Thomas was expecting an army! Course after course was sent out...the first 2 courses were fish, the next one was meat and then the cheeses came out with the cool crisp green bell peppers...I died and went to heaven! I haven't had yummy chess or green bell pepper since March 2011! Afterwards the dessert came out and we all ate homemade marzipan. It was a nice evening and everyone had a good time. Next time we are planning an international feast...I promised to cook American and Italian...perhaps I will prepare hot wings and a ziti bake?
