There are thousands of homeless dogs and cats here in Ukraine and it just breaks my heart to see what miserable lives they lead...especially now with the weather being so cold and snowy. Back in September I rallied the folks in my English clubs to donate a few kopecs every week so we could donate some much needed funds to a friend of mine who uses her own money to sterilize stray cats. Over the course of the next 4 months we collected 700 UAH and I presented it to my friend Natasha, who promptly tried to give it back! I had the girls in my club explain that this was impossible..that many many people donated every week to aid her cause. I think it was the first time I ever saw her speechless! It was a worthy cause and I hope that the people who helped out will remember to sterilize their pets and to spread the word about the importance of caring for our homeless animals.
