Lipscani

Lipscani is the only section left in Bucharest that was not torn down by Ceausescu. What is preserved is very very old and the city is trying to preserve it and a massive reconstruction is underway. The streets are paved with stones, there are Medieval churches still in operation today, and a 14th century medieval archeological site that was uncovered and now preserved. Vlad Teppes (Dracula to us Americans) was said to have been part of this place, which was used as a sort of governmental center. Daniela had an art exhibition here not long ago...how awesome that these people are not anal...in the States I doubt there is any institution that would allow any of us near such a treasure!
